Day …

If you’re my ‘friend’ on Facebook you’ve probably noticed that I’ve updated by status every day over the past two weeks simply by stating how many days oil has been “leaking” into the Gulf. For instance my status for a portion of today simply was ‘Day 45.’
Leaking in quotes because is this really a leak as the media keeps describing it? I mean a leak? I don’t know how you can leak thousands of barrels of oil a day. Leak seems a bit too feeble a verb.
Anyway, I’m not going to go on and on about BP as I did in a previous blog. Instead, I’m simply going to say that my status updates aren’t really about BP anymore. People responded to my last blog with comments questioning my end-goal and whether I understood that boycotting BP really doesn’t accomplish anything because all our crude, regardless of company, ends up mixing all together anyway.
Yeah, I get that. I even said this could have happened to any of the companies, but it happened to BP. I get it.
So when I say this isn’t about BP, I mean it. This is about an event that I believe will change my life. I believe it’ll lead to me personally trying to limit my dependence on fuel and automobiles. It’ll lead to me walking more (it already has) and carpooling more. Like I said, I believe it will change my life, and I hope it changes yours.
And by the way, I started my Facebook thing before Olbermann decided to work it into his signoff.
