Happy birthday, son
A little more than two years ago the Leslie family received a scare. Carolyn was into her third-trimester with Aaron when we were told he wasn’t growing as he should have been. Carolyn was placed on bed rest, and we were left to expect that Aaron would be somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 pounds. We were scared.
I’m never one for manufactured drama, so to say ours was the worst experience in the world would be unfair, others have experienced far worse than us, but still you never want to hear that there’s any issue with a pregnancy and when you do all you’re left with is prayer and a big bag of M&Ms.
Aaron turns 2 today, and he’s still giving us routine scares. As you can see from the photo he’s already had his first set of stitches, and I routinely say “his head is a magnet for the ground.”
But what can I say; he’s my little bowling ball.
Anyone who knows Aaron knows that his size certainly isn’t an issue. We were blessed and he actually was born at 5+ pounds, and he quickly caught up to the proper percentile. Up until recently he never saw anything he didn’t eat: steak, salmon, vegetables, grits, aluminum cans, concrete – it didn’t matter to Aaron. He’s a tank with a big ol’ sack of sugar.
But what’s more important is that Aaron has been blessed with a heart and a soul that really can’t be explained. He exudes love and warmth, and you can gaze into his eyes and know that while he’s up to no good (he is so stubborn), he’s loving you the whole time.
Aaron stole my heart on July 21, 2008, and continues to do so to this day.
Though he fits into the same clothes as Isaac, he’ll always be my little man.
Happy birthday, son.
