June 17, 1994
Over the years I’ve routinely told people how June 17, 1994 was the most incredible sports day of my life. Now they’ve made a documentary about it.
ESPN 30 for 30 will premiere “June 17th 1994” on Wednesday night.
A quick search of Wikipedia will tell you June 17, 1994, was the day of the OJ white Bronco chase. But it was more than that.
That morning, hours before any of us knew what soon would happen with OJ, New York City was alive with energy as the New York Rangers paraded through Manhattan celebrating their first Stanley Cup since 1940.
I was there. I distinctly remember hanging from a lamppost as I watched Mark Messier pass by on the back of a float. Someone in front of me popped a bottle of champagne and sprayed me. I was there with three of my best friends who eight years later would be the groomsmen in my wedding.
From the parade I returned home only to turn back around to head to a Yankees game with my parents.
We were eating dinner at the stadium when we first saw what was happening on the television behind the bar: OJ.
After the Yankee game we returned home to watch the Knicks take on the Rockets in the NBA Finals.
The game eventually was interrupted for the OJ coverage.
The Web site for the 30 for 30 documentary asks “Do you remember where you were on June 17th 1994?”
I certainly do.

That's pretty crazy that you mention you were at a Yankees game because I heard about the chase on the radio as my family and my grandmother were driving to Baltimore for an Orioles game. All I remember is listening to the radio.
