The homeless man with the golden voice
Chances are that over the past 24 hours you've heard the story of the homeless Ohio man with the golden voice. If you haven't here's how it goes.
Ted Williams was just another homeless face along an Ohio road, but the sign he held was a little different as it detailed his prior life as a radio personality.
A reporter with The Columbus Dispatch in Ohio took the time to talk to Williams and get his story on video (see below.) What's ensued has been a viral sensation, with the video being watched more than 4 million times over the past couple of days, according to online reports.
And over just the past 24 hours Williams has received several job inquiries from everyone ranging from a local radio station to NFL Films and the Cleveland Cavaliers.
There are two main reasons why I love this story:
- It goes without saying that this type of story places the power of the Internet and social media on full display. I mean it simply can't be debated that no other technology could have accomplished what has been accomplished here.
- In my past life I was a journalist, and this is what good journalism is supposed to be. Kudos to The Columbus Dispatch for going the extra mile to get Williams' story and for providing the video. Let this be a lesson to the print-media industry that they need not be afraid of technology but instead should embrace it, which many still are afraid to do.
